Artist statement: 'Narrative Art', an emerging, overarching theme

Sustained, intense reflection has surfaced an insight into the overarching mechanism that connects all my work. This is ‘narrative’ which Caruso (2019:473) describes as ‘the Rosetta Stone of the mind, the primary mechanism for organizing and understanding human experience’. I notice that experience consistently drives my interests, whether it’s my inner world or my social/physical experience of the outside. Crucially this stimulates emotion and spiritual insight which demands a robust repertoire of materials when it comes to visual representation, hence I work in a range of media including acrylics, chalk pastels, charcoal, oils, oil pastels and watercolour.
